Hello everyone, it’s me Maggie reminding you about the meeting tomorrow, Thursday Sept 12, at 1:00 pm at the Milton Library meeting room. We will discuss the book sale plans, come out and sign up to help work the book sale. If you can’t come to the meeting but want to volunteer, please sign up online. See below the dates and times, then see the signup form after that information.
Our Book Sale set-up starts October 10th after the 1:00 pm meeting, and then the actual sale is Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am to Noon. Then we need to bring everything back to the book shed and clean up the meeting room. This event is going to be advertised in the Chamber of Commerce platforms, the Beaches to Woodlands Tour campaign, and I will be placing PSA’s with the local radio, tv, and newspapers. I’d appreciate it if you will let me know when you hear about it from any source.
On Thursday September 5, I attended the Community Council Meeting in Milton as the representative for Friends of the Milton Library. It is a great networking opportunity with other nonprofits. In these meetings each organization’s representative has an opportunity to promote the organization by giving out flyers, and by giving a short speech about their organization’s mission, and any upcoming events their organization is planning. I gave everyone the flyer, “Mark Your Calendar” that has our membership application on one side and the Book Sale and Meeting Info on the other side. I talked about the upcoming Book Sale and how we need volunteers to help with our book sale. I asked them all to help spread the word and to contact me by email, or drop by the book shed on any Monday about 10:00 am to talk with a member of the book committee and sign up to be a volunteer. I explained how we will set up for the book sale by moving books that the book committee will have packed into flats ready to be moved from the book shed to the meeting room on Thursday October 10th after the 1:00 pm meeting. The Library will be closed, members may come to the outside meeting room entrance to join in and stay to help us set up for the book sale. We will be open to the public on Friday October 11th between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, and on Saturday October 12th between 9:00 am and Noon. After the book sale ends at noon on Saturday, then we will need volunteers to help bring all the unsold books back into the book shed where the flats will be stacked until Monday when the book committee will restock the book shed shelves. Volunteers are welcome to come help on Monday also. Spread the word and recruit volunteers, students can earn volunteer service hours toward academic requirements.
I also attended a digital marketing workshop at the County Auditorium in Milton recently. I gained some new knowledge about the intricate workings of SEO (Search Engine Optimization,) and how the different “platforms” operate. WordPress is the “platform” we use for our new website blog https://friendsofthemiltonlibrary.wordpress.com/
“Converge” is the “platform” showcased during the digital marketing workshop where I also learned about QR Code. I’m sure you have seen those strange looking square shaped black and white graphics that are read by smart phones. Those strange looking square shaped graphics are QR Code. WordPress is a free and open source platform that is used by about 19% of the top 10 million websites as of August 2013.
